Based on the scheme of Government of India, Government of Odisha has decided to upgrade this hospital into Medical College Hospital in view of benefit of patients not only in the undivided Koraput district but also other backward districts like Kalahandi, Nuapada as well as the two neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This hospital is now named as Saheed Laxman Naik, Medical College Hospital, Koraput, Odisha.

ମୟୂରଭଞ୍ଜ ନାମ ସୂଚାଇ ଦିଏ ଯେ ପୂର୍ବ ରାଜ୍ୟଟି ଦୁଇଟି ମଧ୍ୟଯୁଗୀୟ ଶାସକ ପରିବାର, ମୟୂର ଏବଂ ଭଞ୍ଜଙ୍କ ନାମରେ ନାମିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା। ରେକର୍ଡରୁ ଜଣାପଡ଼ୁଛି ଯେ ମୟୂରମାନେ ଖିଜିଙ୍ଗା ମଣ୍ଡଳାର ଭଞ୍ଜମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ ସମସାମୟିକ ଭାବରେ ବୋନାଇ ମଣ୍ଡଳାରେ ଶାସନ କରୁଥିଲେ। ଏହି ଦୁଇ ଶାସକ ପରିବାର ମଧ୍ୟରେ ସାମାଜିକ ଏବଂ ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ ସମ୍ପର୍କ ବହୁତ ନିକଟତର ଥିଲା। ତେଣୁ ଦୁଇ ଶାସକ ପରିବାରର ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ସମ୍ପର୍କର ସ୍ମୃତିରେ ରାଜ୍ୟଟି ମୟୂରଭଞ୍ଜ ନାମିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା। ଭାରତୀୟ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ପରେ, ୧ ଜାନୁଆରୀ ୧୯୪୯ ରେ ଗଡ଼ଜାତ ରାଜ୍ୟକୁ ଶେଷ ରାଜ୍ୟ ଭାବରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସହିତ ମିଶ୍ରଣ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା।

ଏସ.ଏଲ.ଏନ ମେଡିକାଲ କଲେଜ ଏବଂ ହସ୍ପିଟାଲ, କୋରାପୁଟ ୧୯୦୮ ମସିହାରେ ଏକ ପୁରୁଣା କୋଠାରେ ଡିସପେନସାରୀ ଭାବରେ କୋରାପୁଟ ଜିଲ୍ଲାରେ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇଥିଲା। ଏହାକୁ ୧୯୩୭ ମସିହାରେ ୪୭ ଶଯ୍ୟା ସହିତ ଲୋକାଲ୍ ଫଣ୍ଡ ହସ୍ପିଟାଲରେ ଉନ୍ନୀତ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ୨୫.୧୦.୨୦୦୪ ମସିହାରେ ୧୮୮ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକ୍ଷମ ଶଯ୍ୟା ସହିତ ଏହାକୁ ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନର କୋଠାକୁ ସ୍ଥାନାନ୍ତରିତ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ଏଥିରେ ୩୦୦ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକ୍ଷମ ଶଯ୍ୟା ଅଛି। ଭାରତ ସରକାରଙ୍କ ଯୋଜନା ଉପରେ ଆଧାର କରି, ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସରକାର କେବଳ ଅବିଭକ୍ତ କୋରାପୁଟ ଜିଲ୍ଲା ନୁହେଁ ବରଂ କଳାହାଣ୍ଡି, ନୂଆପଡ଼ା ଏବଂ ଦୁଇ ପଡ଼ୋଶୀ ରାଜ୍ୟ ଆନ୍ଧ୍ର ପ୍ରଦେଶ ଏବଂ ଛତିଶଗଡ଼ ଭଳି ପଛୁଆ ଜିଲ୍ଲାଗୁଡ଼ିକର ରୋଗୀଙ୍କ ସୁବିଧାକୁ ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରେ ରଖି ଏହି ହସ୍ପିଟାଲକୁ ମେଡିକାଲ କଲେଜ ହସ୍ପିଟାଲରେ ଉନ୍ନୀତ କରିବାକୁ ନିଷ୍ପତ୍ତି ନେଇଛନ୍ତି। ଏହି ହସ୍ପିଟାଲଟି ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ସହୀଦ ଲକ୍ଷ୍ମଣ ନାୟକ, ମେଡିକାଲ କଲେଜ ହସ୍ପିଟାଲ, କୋରାପୁଟ, ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ନାମରେ ନାମିତ ହୋଇଛି।
